# 4. Maintenance & Cleaning

### General Care

To protect your device and maintain warranty coverage:

* **Avoid heat** — high temperatures shorten component lifespan, damage batteries, and can deform plastics.
* **Avoid cold storage** — returning to normal temperatures causes condensation that can damage circuit boards.
* **Handle carefully** — dropping, knocking, or shaking can break internal circuit boards and delicate mechanics.

These guidelines apply to the device and all accessories. For operational issues, visit the nearest Verifone authorized service provider.

### Cleaning & Sanitizing Guidelines

**CAUTION:** Using improper cleaning methods may result in functional or cosmetic damage **not covered under warranty**.

Clean the device using a **lightly water-dampened, clean microfiber cloth**. One or two drops of pH-neutral, non-scrubbing soap may be used.

**Do not use:** solvents, harsh detergents, or abrasive cleaners.

#### Important Rules

1. **Never spray, coat, or pour** any liquid, sanitizer, or disinfectant directly onto the device.
2. **Avoid harsh chemicals:** bleach, hydrogen peroxide, thinner, trichloroethylene, or ketone-based solvents — these degrade plastic and rubber components.
3. **Prevent ESD:** Do not vigorously rub with a dry towel — this can cause electrostatic discharge and trigger a tamper alert.

### Cleaning Instructions

1. **Turn off** the device.
2. **Disconnect** from the power source.
3. **Clean gently** following the guidelines above.
4. Allow the device to **dry completely** before reconnecting to power.

**Do NOT:**

* Pour liquid on the terminal
* Apply hand sanitizer to the terminal
* Spray the terminal directly
* Scrub the terminal
