# Password Management

This page contains information about the system password management on VOS1, VOS2 and VOS3 platforms.

Passwords functionality/management differs on different platforms:

* On VOS1 and VOS2 system passwords are used to protect the [System Mode Overview](/s-adk-5.1-programmers-guide/readme/pg_system_diagnosis_and_troubleshooting/pg_sysmode_overview.md) from unauthorized use.
* On VOS3 system passwords are used to protect [MAC Control Panels](/s-adk-5.1-programmers-guide/readme/system_overview/pg_all_components/pg_mac_users_guide.md#sec_mac_mcp) from unauthorized use.
